Mysuru, 7 Feb

We will not allow our Karnataka to become like the film ‘Udta Punjab’, said Home Minister G Parameshwara after inaugurating Siddartha Nagar police station building in Mysuru on Saturday.

‘Udta Punjab’ is a 2016 Bollywood film starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt about a drug crisis in Punjab.

Parameshwara said that the police are taking strict action to control the drug menace. Regular checking is being carried out at vulnerable points, including in Bengaluru.

Foreign nationals involved in drug cases are being dealt with firmly, and after completion of legal formalities, they are deported as per rules, he stated.

On the recent Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raids in Mysuru, Parameswara said that State police officials and the Central agency have given contradictory statements. Hence, the police must step up their investigations into the activities of chemical factories operating in and around Mysuru.

NCB officials have detected the presence of 27 chemical manufacturing units in Rajasthan.

AI CAMERAS

To strengthen surveillance and prevention, the Mysuru city police have been directed to install 2,000 CCTV cameras, including AI-powered cameras, at key junctions in Mysuru, in the wake of the formation of the Greater Mysuru City Corporation. Currently, the Mysuru Police have installed 386 cameras in different junctions.
